About Department of Industrial Management
The Industrial Management Department (IMD) of the Oriental Institute of Technology (OIT) was established in 1973. It has earned affirmation and praise from the industry and business community in Taiwan, thanks to the diligent efforts and outstanding achievements by teachers, students, and alumni of the department.
The goal of IMD is to educate and equip students with solid theoretical knowledge and the practical experience to become business decision-makers and/or operation process managers in various levels. We guide students to bring out the spirits of the OIT motto: Honesty, Diligence, Simplicity, Vigilance, and Innovation. Students are expected to gain five core competencies that match the motto of OIT as follows: Collaboration & Teamwork, Information technologies, Second language skills, Problem-solving, and Innovation & Creation. There are two aspects in the curriculum planning: Business Decision Making and Operation Process Management. Through specialized subjects and courses of practical applications, humanities courses in general education, and service-learning programs, students will be well positioned by exhibiting good work ethics and owning the practical application specializations.
As to the student counselor program, it covers the following three major areas: learning guidance, living assistance, and career consulting. We will provide various ways to enhance the students’ practical competencies including but not limited to the following: experts’ collaborative teaching, vocational course -- common core competencies program, senior project, business course of lectures, school visit and off-campus internship.
Management skills and competent managers are in great demand throughout various businesses and industries (manufacturing, service, business, agriculture, etc.) Graduating students may easily find jobs in the following areas: 1. industrial engineering, 2. service management of information and communication technology, 3. supply, distribution and warehouse management, 4. marketing, public relations and technical specialty, 5. relevant sales of shop, 6. manager of warehouse and retail stores. It goes without saying that Industrial Management graduates have the broadest job market.
